Sometimes you can’t attend an event as it is simply not affordable. Or you could, but you always wanted to experience an event from a different perspective, why don’t you join our team in Berlin as a volunteer? Here are a few reasons why you should.

Be Part of the Heart of the Event

Volunteers don’t just help. They make beyond tellerrand happen. You’re part of the team that creates the unique, welcoming atmosphere everyone talks about.

Meet Inspiring People

You’ll connect with speakers, attendees, and other volunteers from around the world. Designers, developers, artists, and creative thinkers. Many lasting friendships (and collaborations) start right here.

Learn from Behind the Scenes

See how a creative event is organised (or learn how not to do it 😁). From stage setup to attendee experience. It’s hands-on learning you can’t get anywhere else.

Get Inspired – For Free

When you’re not on shift, you can attend talks and absorb the same inspiration and insights as ticket holders.

Build Experience and Confidence

It’s a fantastic way to practice communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Skills that matter in any career and job.

Join a Warm and Supportive Community

beyond tellerrand isn’t corporate or formal. It’s personal, friendly, and fun. You’re part of something people genuinely care about.

We Gonna Have fun

It’s work, yes. But it’s also filled with laughs, stories, and unforgettable moments.

Andy Bell is a designer and front-end developer known for his thoughtful approach to building resilient, accessible, and maintainable web experiences. I think, through his work at Set Studio and Piccalilli, he helps create front-end systems that last and are of high quality.

I am really looking forward to his talk at beyond tellerrand, where he will present “Get the Core Right and the Resilient Code Will Follow”, showing how better planning and communication between designers and developers lead to simpler, more robust codebases.

So, what are you waiting for? beyond tellerrand Berlin 2025 is just around the corner and taking place on November 6 and 7 with workshops and Side Events on 5th and 8th.

I’m really looking forward to the session of Lucy Blakiston at #btconf in Berlin. If you know her work with “Shit You Should Care About” or her book “Make It Make Sense” (German edition here), you already know she has a unique way of making sense of the internet without ever making it boring.

This isn’t going to be a “death by slides” presentation. Instead, Lucy will sit down with her friend Sacha Judd for a real conversation about life online in 2025. They’ll cover what it means to live so much of our lives on the internet, why communities matter more than clout, how fandom can spark entire careers, and what AI is doing to the future of digital media.

It promises to be one of those talks where you leave not only entertained, but also with a new perspective on the world you scroll through every day.

beyond tellerrand Berlin 2025 is taking place on November 6 and 7 with workshops and Side Events on 5th and 8th.

Katie Menzies and Abel Reverter – aka Cabeza Patata – are back at beyond tellerrand. Cabeza Patata is a character design and illustration studio. Last time they came, they spoke about “The Positives of Saying No”, where they shared insights into their creative journey, decisions to reject conventional industry pressure, and how those brave choices shaped their studio’s direction.

They new talk “Exhausted … but still excited!” in which they share how navigating parenthood alongside creative work has forced them to adapt, and how embracing the chaos has brought fresh energy and joy to their practice. You might be tired, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be excited about what’s next!

Expect a lovely, motivational and inspiring talk from Katie and Abel. I am looking forward to welcome them in Berlin!

Behind the Scenes – Keir Whitaker

Welcome to another episode of my little “Behind the Scenes” (video-)podcast. The idea of this irregular series is to introduce you to a few people that are part of the beyond tellerrand journey. Sometimes that is a speaker, sometimes someone who helps me in a different way and usually goes unnoticed or without much of a spotlight on them. Next to the fact that these people help me, I want to furthermore introduce you to them since they mean something to me.

Yes, I run beyond tellerrand for nearly 15 years as a single person, a one-person band or, like some would say, a solopreneur. But surely there are a lot of people who helped me along the way – next to my wonderful family of course. Some more often, some from time to time, but I am absolutely thankful for their input, their help, their opinion, feedback or however they support me.

One of these people is today’s guest: Keir Whitaker. We know each other for more than a decade already. Once a week Keir is there for me to listen to my rants, complaints, ideas and I can pick his brain for an opinion or feedback. He is the reason why I put much more effort into my newsletter these days and continue to work on it regularly, for example.

In this unscripted episode we were talking about feedback – giving feedback, listening to feedback and using feedback. Furthermore I asked Keir how important it is these days to have a website, especially if you run an event.

Surely we also had a conversation about social media and how it changed over the last 10 years and the role it plays for an event organiser today.

And last but not least, I asked him about his own event series, he started 2023, called Craft and Work. What it is about, when and where it does it take place and who should come.

Enjoy!

Jared Ficklin is a designer, technologist, and all-around creative troublemaker who loves to ask “what if?”, who then usually actually builds the answer himself. He is the co-founder and Chief Creative Technologist at argodesign and he spent over 20 years inventing new ways for people to connect with technology, from wild gesture controls to immersive, mind-bending projections.

Maybe you know him as he’s the guy who once brought live fire onto the TED stage, dreamed up gondola transit systems for cities, and turned SXSW parties into unforgettable playgrounds of sound and light.

If you ask me, I think Jared believes the future should be prototyped, not just imagined. Part designer, part futurist, he thrives on blurring the line between serious innovation and joyful experimentation – always with a grin and a spark that makes you wonder what’s coming next.

I am absolutely happy that Jared is joining us for beyond tellerrand Berlin this year!

I’m absolutely over the moon to share that Sacha Judd is joining us once again – all the way from New Zealand! If you’ve seen her before, you’ll know why I’m so excited: her talks are thoughtful, engaging, and always leave you with something new to think about. But it’s not just about her talks. Sacha is one of those people you can have a truly great conversation with, whether it’s about tech, culture, or the small details of everyday life. She has a lot to say and always brings a fresh perspective.

On top of that, I’m a big fan of her weekly newsletter, which is packed with links, ideas, and inspiration that never fail to brighten my inbox. I honestly can’t wait to see what she’ll bring to the stage in Berlin this year.

It was not only a wonderful event, but also great fun, and during that time Thorsten and I had many inspiring conversations.

Therefore I was truly delighted when Thorsten agreed to join us in Berlin. He describes himself as a Digital Sustainability Activist, Responsible AI Advocate, and Sustainable UX Trailblazer—and with good reason. Thorsten is the founder of the non-profit initiative and global community SUX Network as well as the SUX Academy.

On top of that, he co-leads the UX chapter of the W3C Sustainable Web Design Guidelines and hosts the SUX Podcast.
